Walk 2: Eastbourne to The Long Man via Jevington

Walk.0604130001On Saturday we decided to walk to The Long Man.  You can see him while driving along the A27.  This walk a a few miles longer than the one we did for Walk 1.   Although this walk is longer, it was a bit more gentle on the poor muscles.  Until we actually got to The Long Man!

We didn’t leave the house until after eleven, again!  And, it was the same old ‘sunny at seven…’  However, after a couple of hours, the sun decided to bless us for the rest of the afternoon!  I tried to take photos, but my battery died and so Bob took pictures with his i-phone.

WalkHere we are in our walking gear!  Thermal trousers, boots, walking poles, waterproof jackets with fleeces and merino wool base-layers!  It was quite cold and grey when we left the house and we weren’t sure it was going to rain.  The sun had only just come out when we took this!

It took us a couple of hours to get to Jevington, where we stopped for some hot soup and a pint.  The pub, The Eight Bells, was heaving with walkers.  After lunch, we carried on to The Long Man.  It was glorious with the sun shining and we had some amazing views.

The walk to The Long Man was pretty easy until we got to it!

We then had to walk along a path, up the hill, to the left of it.  Thank goodness for my poles!  I had to pause a few times to admire the scenery on my way up!

IMG_0386-001Here we are at the top of the hill with the view behind us!  It was pretty much downhill after this!  We carried on back down to Jevington for another pint and a comfort break, but this time we sat outside in the sunshine before the last leg home.  Because we left home late and dawdled at the pub, we were fortunate to witness a glorious sunset at the top of the downs.

IMG_0397We think Saturdays will be our hiking day as it means that we have a day to recover before I have to go to work.  Fortunately, I wasn’t in as much pain as I was the week before.  The more we walk, the more fit we will be.  On Sunday, I could just about manage a short stroll along the seafront, but I am fine today.  As is usual, Bob is fine regardless.  He is very hardy.

Next week we will be going out earlier in the day.  We haven’t decided where we will be going yet.  All I know is that it will be another adventure!
